BUYING & SELECTION

What to prepare before a mower inquiry

A clear equipment brief helps a supplier understand what needs to be confirmed before issuing a quotation.

1. Describe the job.

Begin with the intended application and vegetation. Describe grass height, density and any woody growth. Explain whether the work is routine maintenance or an initial clearance task. Avoid substituting an application label for the actual conditions.

If you do not know a measurement, say so. A useful brief separates known facts from questions for the supplier.

2. Describe the site and access.

Include ground conditions, slopes, obstacles, gates and loading arrangements. For an orchard, note row spacing and irrigation lines. For a larger site, describe how different working areas vary.

The mower must be assessed as a complete machine. The width of its cutting path is not the same as the clearance needed for travel and turning.

3. State the purchasing requirements.

Provide the destination country, likely quantity and whether the machine is for resale or your own operation. Identify the model and configuration under consideration. Ask the supplier to distinguish included items from optional accessories.

Dealers should also ask how parts identification, technical documentation and service responsibilities will be handled for their market.

4. Request a complete written quotation.

  • Exact model, engine and drive configuration.
  • Included equipment and separately priced options.
  • Packing information and shipment terms.
  • Applicable documentation for the supplied configuration.
  • Warranty terms and allocation of parts, labor and freight responsibilities.

Do not treat the machine price alone as the final delivered cost. Record what remains unquoted rather than assuming it is included.
